"Art may be in the eye of the beholder, but it is the artist's eye and creative mind that create a final image. This image, when first found by the artist, goes through a selective process. As a two dimensional artist I must choose the final arrangement of my subject and interpret the mix and placement of color.

"I attempt to learn something about color, technique and interpretation with each piece of art work that I complete."

Dorothy Haferman Northrup grew up in a cultural environment. Her mother and sister were accomplished artists. Dorothy's formal training began at the University of Central Missouri. Dorothy recieved her B.S.E. and M.S.E. in art education. Following graduate school she studied under pastelist, Alber Gandel and portrait artist, Harry Fredman. Dorothy's teaching experiences have been ongoing since 1967. The fact that Dorothy has been a practicing artist enhances her teaching techniques.

Contact Dorothy if you have questions about her art work, lessons, or commissions. She works in a variety of drawing media, watercolor, oil, pastel, ink and mixed media. Subjects range from still life, floral, landscapes, portraits and architectural studies.
