"If I could I would paint a breaking ocean wave into every one of my paintings. Having sailed for over 25 years, I have learned how to read subtle wind patterns on the wave surfaces, and feel very satisfied when I've combined wave and wind on canvas."
Photography was my original calling. Since the late Fifties I've worked with light to paint shadows in my photographs. I began with taking pictures of school dances, portraits, and stock car races in the San Francisco Bay Area. Friends recognized my talent and would ask me to take photographs of their wedding. My college major included several technical photography courses.
I carried my 35mm Leica camera throughout my travels to Thailand, Spain, Japan, Great Britian and within 60 nautical miles, one degree, of the north pole. Having lived on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, California and Florida. I have grown quite attached to the beauty of where land and ocean interact.
I've studied under several watercolor artists, both in California and in Colorado. In addition to selling my paints locally, I have successfully sold many paintings online at my website, davidswatercolors.com.
